Christmas in Culipran el Dibujo

Day 55 to 58 (23rd to 26th Dec 2012): Rest day in Culipran el Dibujo.

It was gone 09:30 before I awoke.  I don’t think I’ve been this tired for some time. I breakfasted on fresh eggs and a cup of tea.

The air was nice and fresh from the Pacific breeze and the sun, just the right shade of yellow.  My host caught a goat which was later despatched to make ready for a boxing day Asado.  Whilst lassoed and tied up it’s mother stayed behind and bayed in unison with the captured billy goat.20121223_105916x1600IMG_3082x1600

Later that afternoon the carcass was hung for a day, apparently to improve the meat.

We made a short trip to Medialuna las Palmas and to see the rodeo there although the actual rodeo is in late January.  Later that evening I had goat eggs.  Fried in oil they were really yummy if not seeming somewhat strange to eat such a delicacy.IMG_3090x1600IMG_3141x1600

The time was taken up basically doing very little, with Christmas day broken up by a horse which required castration.  Suffice to say that the horse’s bits were removed by a small swiss army knife and followed up with the huasos gathering in the shade under a nearby tree to have a couple of beers.  The coquitos needed to be soaked in vinegar before consuming, apparently they’re a bit stronger than goats’.IMG_3218x1600IMG_3224x1600IMG_3240x1600IMG_3260x1600
